Esquina

(es·key·na ; Spanish for corner)

It began with an idea: quick, delicious food. Nuevo Latino became the focus for the menu and the rest continues to evolve. Robert & Molly Krause, along with Simon & Codi Bates, own and operate this modernized taqueria, along with a talented staff of seasoned chefs, inspired mixologists and passionate servers. We all care about what we are serving and how we are serving it. Whether it’s a quick meal with friends or a sit down date night, we cover all areas. Starting with traditional taqueria style cuisine and incorporating our own flair into each dish, we have redefined the way you think about Mexican & Latin American cuisine.

Round Corner Building-

What once was the oldest pharmacy in the state closed its doors in July 2009. The Round Corner Pharmacy had a long history in Lawrence, with the original location surviving Quantrill’s raid in 1863. Offering a personal touch to what has become a booming industry in the United States, Lawrence was lucky to have the Round Corner as long as it did.

The Restoration-

Using many materials already occupying the space, we’ve uncovered its natural beauty. From the hidden windows on the north and east sides of the building, the covered up south stone interior wall, the natural wood floors or the incredible height of the ceiling, we’ve restored this space to what it was intended to feel like- a comfortable, casual and welcoming environment. Come sit at in one of our cozy booths, the table in which was made from shelving found in the basement of the drugstore. Have a large group? Sit at our community table, which was built in the basement, due to its size and was used to fill prescriptions ever since the pharmacy first opened.  And that’s just a start to the unique details we’ve put into this space as a tribute to the original occupant.
